Overseas brands welcome. We work in English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.TL;DR: Many of the most-followed Japanese TikTokers built their audiences with wordless videos that travel, so much of their following sits outside Japan. Whether a creator reaches Japanese viewers is shown by their audience country breakdown, not their follower count. Japanese TikTok also splits by genre, and beauty, food and comedy each work differently for brands.
Most lists of famous Japanese TikTokers rank accounts by followers, which shows who is famous, not who reaches people in Japan. The first half of this guide covers who Japan’s TikTokers are, by genre; the second half is for teams planning a campaign. For the wider picture, start with our overview of influencer marketing in Japan.
Japan’s biggest TikTokers have followings in the tens of millions, but much of that following is outside Japan. The largest Japanese accounts grew with videos that need no language, and the For You feed carries those videos worldwide. A Japanese TikToker is not the same as a TikToker who reaches Japan.
The most-followed Japanese creator account we know of had over 50 million followers when we checked in September 2026, more than TikTok’s entire monthly user base in Japan. No creator is followed by every user in a country, so a large share of those followers must be elsewhere. A Dentsu researcher wrote in 2022 that a Japanese account with about 40 million followers outnumbered TikTok’s monthly users in Japan because so many followers were overseas, and at a 2021 TikTok Japan seminar one top creator said his biggest follower country was the United States. Recent captions from the five largest accounts on our old list contain almost no Japanese. For user numbers, see our guide to TikTok in Japan and our influencer marketing statistics for Japan.
Cooking close-ups, dance, magic, visual gags and pets work without a word of Japanese. Viewers anywhere understand them, so the algorithm serves them everywhere. Talk-based sketches, reviews, tutorials and explainers only land with people who understand Japanese, so their audiences stay concentrated in Japan. Format is the first clue to where a creator’s viewers are.
Independent creators are common on TikTok. Many who take regular brand work, though, are represented by a talent office or a multi-channel network (MCN), and requests go through that company. Either way, a cold direct message from an overseas brand rarely gets a reply. Our guide on how to discover influencers covers where to look.
For a brand targeting Japan, genre is a better guide than follower tier: it predicts where the audience is and how open the creator is to sponsored content. The table is our editorial assessment of tendencies, not measured data.
| Genre | Who tends to watch | Tendency toward a Japanese audience | Openness to brand work | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beauty and cosmetics | Mostly women, teens to thirties | High when tutorials are spoken in Japanese | Established | Cosmetics, skincare, hair care |
| Food and cooking | Broad | Mixed; wordless cooking travels | Established | Food, drinks, kitchenware, restaurants |
| Comedy and skits | Teens to twenties, widening | High if talk-based; low if wordless | Depends on the concept | Apps, snacks, drinks, games, services |
| Fashion | Teens to thirties | Mixed; styling talk stays local | Established | Apparel, accessories, eyewear |
| Dance | Teens to twenties | Low to mixed | Depends on the concept | Music, sound-led campaigns |
| Education and explainers | Twenties and up | High; the content is speech | Selective about products | Apps, learning services |
| Pets | Broad | Mixed; wordless clips travel | Established | Pet food, pet goods, home products |
In our assessment, dance and wordless cooking are the most likely to build overseas audiences, comedy and explainers in spoken Japanese tend to stay domestic, and beauty, fashion and pets sit in between. Our own research does show what Japanese viewers buy: among people who had bought after watching TikTok, food and drink led at 33.00% and beauty and cosmetics followed at 29.75%, according to our TikTok purchasing survey (n=400 buyers); our usage survey covers who is on the app.
Beauty, food and fashion creators treat sponsored posts as routine. Comedy and dance creators take brand work when it fits a sketch or routine. Explainer creators accept only products they can stand behind. For follower tiers, see our guide to TikTok influencer marketing in Japan.
The five creators below meet two tests: their recent captions are in Japanese, and they have public brand work. Follower figures are rounded from each profile on 25 September 2026.
| Genre | Examples (followers, September 2026) | Audience signal | Public brand work | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beauty, cosmetics and fashion | Hina Kagei (about 10 million) | Japanese captions and speech | #PR post for eyewear brand JINS | Eyewear, fashion, cosmetics |
| Food, cooking and lifestyle | Panna (about 10 million) | Japanese captions | Post tagged #PR for pet feeding goods | Pet food and goods, home products |
| Comedy, skits and dance | M2DK (about 6 million), Remitan (about 7 million), Asamimi-chan (about 7.5 million) | Japanese sketches and captions | McDonald’s Japan #PR sketch; Hakutsuru ambassador; Pigg Party collaboration | Food and drink, apps, games, services |
Brand work is most established here. Hina Kagei is represented by Horipro Digital Entertainment, which in 2021 described her supporters as mainly Generation Z. She posts in Japanese across makeup, fashion and everyday comedy, and her brand work includes a #PR post styling frames from eyewear chain JINS. Cosmetics briefs carry a legal constraint: Japan’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act limits what creators can claim, so wording is reviewed before posting. Our guide to Japanese Instagram influencers covers those rules in more detail.

Food is where a big following is most likely to sit overseas, because a sizzling pan needs no translation. The two large food accounts on our old list post wordless videos captioned in English or with hashtags only, so neither is listed. In lifestyle, Panna is a pet account built around a toy poodle and a chihuahua. It captions in Japanese, lists a contact email on its profile, and has published a post tagged #PR featuring a slow-feeding pet bowl.
@azchpn
Talk-based comedy concentrates Japanese audiences. M2DK, the team behind Matsudake no Nichijo, is a Tokyo company that says it has worked with more than 150 companies, and has posted a McDonald’s Japan sketch tagged #PR. Remitan is the account of the handball player who captained Japan at the Tokyo Olympics; in January 2023 sake brewer Hakutsuru made him ambassador for its new TikTok account, planning and appearing in its videos. Asamimi-chan is an animated rabbit character managed by character talent agency Simple Side Mascots, whose collaborations include a 2025 campaign in CyberAgent’s avatar app Pigg Party. The warning for this genre: a sketch that turns your product into the joke can damage the brand, so agree the storyline and what is off limits before filming.

From here on, this guide is for the people commissioning the work. Choose on audience location, not follower count.
| Step | Who to ask | What to look at | How to judge it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Request viewer locations | Management, or the creator if independent | Screenshots of location data in TikTok’s viewer analytics | Japan’s share against what the campaign needs |
| 2. Check age and gender | Same request | Age and gender on the same screen | Matches your buyer |
| 3. Read the comments | You or your agency | Comment language on recent posts | Mostly Japanese |
| 4. Check the posting record | You or your agency | Frequency and views over recent months | Steady, not one viral spike |
| 5. Decide | You | Steps 1 to 4 together | No data shared means no booking |
TikTok’s analytics show creators the inferred gender, age and locations of their viewers, and TikTok says these figures come from predictive models, so read them as estimates. Except for creators registered on TikTok One, only the account holder sees these figures. Ask the creator’s management for screenshots taken on the day, covering recent posts, including any sponsored ones. If a creator declines to share it, take them off the shortlist. There is no fixed threshold for the Japanese share: a Japan-only launch needs a far higher share than a global awareness push. Set your minimum before the screenshots arrive.
Saves and shares are closer to purchase intent than likes: a viewer who saves plans to come back, and one who shares is asking someone’s opinion. Among Japanese TikTok users who had bought something after watching a video, 33.25% had saved the post and 20.75% had shared the link with family or friends, while 18.25% bought on the spot, according to our purchasing behaviour survey. Ask for saves and shares on recent posts alongside views.
Two checks need no data from the creator. First, read the comments: an account whose comments are mostly in Japanese is talking to Japan, and one whose comments are mostly in English, Spanish or Portuguese is not, whatever its name. Second, scroll back several months. Some accounts owe their follower count to one viral video that their recent posts never approach.
hotice is a cross-border influencer marketing agency helping overseas brands enter Japan. We handle casting, negotiation, Japanese-language contracts, and ad-disclosure compliance.
Tell us your category, budget range, and timing. We will take it from there.Volume and usage rights, not any single fee, drive the total. Rates move, so we cover structure here, not prices.
A quote from a Japanese TikTok creator usually has four layers: the posting fee; production costs; secondary use rights, including running the post as a Spark Ad from your own ad account; and the period those rights last. What drives each layer is covered in our guide to influencer marketing costs in Japan.
TikTok’s feed decides who sees each video, so the same creator can post one video that reaches millions and one that barely moves. Campaigns are therefore built as several creators posting several videos each, with paid reach behind the ones that work. The full process is in our guide to TikTok influencer marketing in Japan.
A talent office represents creators, an influencer marketing agency represents brands, and a platform is software between them. For several creators at once, the agency is usually the practical route.
| Talent office or MCN | Influencer marketing agency | Platform (such as TikTok One) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Relationship with | The creator | The brand | Both, through software |
| What it does | Negotiates fees, manages schedules | Plans, casts across offices, contracts, reports | Search, messaging, campaign tools |
| What it does not do | Compare creators across offices | Guarantee every creator | Negotiate in Japanese for you |
| Best for | Brands that know which creator they want | Brands booking several creators | In-house teams that work in Japanese |
When an overseas brand emails a Japanese talent office directly, the request often stalls: the brief is in English and nobody is named to handle disclosure, usage rights and approvals in Japanese. Offices favour agencies they already know. TikTok One, TikTok’s creator marketing platform, suits teams that can run the Japanese side themselves.
Because TikTok campaigns run on volume, an agency earns its fee in three places: running several creators from different offices on one timeline, collecting every candidate’s audience country breakdown before anyone is booked, and writing Spark Ads rights into every contract so the best posts can be boosted. At hotice, casting several creators at once and running the campaign through to posting is the part of the work we take on.
Ask any agency three things. Can you provide the audience country breakdown for every creator you propose? Is your relationship with each creator direct, or subcontracted? Does the contract include secondary use, including Spark Ads, and for how long? Our comparison of influencer marketing agencies in Japan covers what else to look for.
Since 1 October 2023, sponsored content that viewers cannot recognise as advertising has been a violation of Japan’s Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations. The advertiser is the party held responsible, not the influencer. On TikTok, the creator should switch on the commercial content disclosure setting, which adds a label such as “Paid partnership”, and also state the sponsorship in plain text such as “PR” in the caption or video. Put both requirements in the contract, along with who checks each post before it goes live. Our guide to Japan’s stealth marketing regulation explains what counts as sponsored content.
The most-followed Japanese TikTok account we know of belongs to cooking creator Bayashi, with over 50 million followers when we checked in September 2026. Most of the largest accounts grew with wordless videos that work in any country, so a large share of their followers are outside Japan; the top account alone has more followers than TikTok’s monthly user base in Japan. If your goal is to reach Japanese consumers, follower rank is a poor guide. See TikTok in Japan for the platform’s user figures.
Often less than their fame suggests. Many of the best-known Japanese TikTokers built their followings with dance, cooking, magic or visual comedy that needs no language, and those formats travel. Creators who talk in Japanese, such as comedy sketch accounts and explainers, usually have more concentrated Japanese audiences, even with fewer followers. The only reliable answer for a specific creator is their audience country breakdown from TikTok analytics, which you can request through their management. See the selection steps above.
Ask the creator’s management for same-day screenshots of the location data in TikTok’s viewer analytics, covering recent and sponsored posts. Unless the creator is registered on TikTok One, only the account holder can see this data, and TikTok notes that it is estimated by predictive models. Then check two things yourself: the language of recent comments, and whether views are stable across several months. If a creator will not share the breakdown, remove them from the shortlist. See the section on choosing a creator.
Every quote has the same four layers: the posting fee; production costs; secondary use rights, including running the post as a Spark Ad; and the period those rights last. TikTok campaigns usually buy several short videos from several creators, so the total is driven by volume and usage rights more than by any one fee. Exclusivity and longer usage periods raise it further. What moves a quote up or down is covered in our guide to influencer marketing costs in Japan.
You can try, but it rarely works for creators who take regular brand work. Many are represented by a talent office or MCN, and requests are redirected there. Independent creators usually list a business email on their profile and name no management company. Even then, expect to negotiate in Japanese and to handle disclosure, usage rights and approvals on Japanese terms, which is where most overseas outreach stalls. Our guide on how to discover influencers explains how to find and approach creators.
Start by separating talent offices, which represent creators, from influencer marketing agencies, which represent brands. For a campaign with several TikTok creators, you want the second, because it can cast across offices and run everyone on one timeline. Then ask each agency three questions: can it provide the audience country breakdown for every proposed creator, is its relationship with each creator direct, and does the contract include Spark Ads and other secondary use? The agency section above explains why each question matters.
Yes, and the legal responsibility sits with the brand. Since 1 October 2023, Japan’s Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations has treated advertising disguised as ordinary content as a violation. On TikTok, that means two disclosures on every sponsored post: the commercial content disclosure setting, which shows a label such as “Paid partnership”, and a plain-text “PR” in the caption or video. Write both into the contract. Our guide to Japan’s stealth marketing regulation explains the rules in full.
Follower counts and captions were read from each creator’s TikTok profile on 23 September 2026 and rechecked on 25 September. hotice survey reports do not state fieldwork dates or methods.
